Trend Research 101

Trend analysis workshops & trainings

If the use of trends does not maximize your sales, you are using the wrong ones.

The fashion industry is full of lists of trends that “have to be” followed every year, but the reality is that choosing the right trend goes beyond knowing the color, the silhouette or the key item of the season.

Even specialized reports from platforms such as WGSN or Fashion Snoops must go through a filter on the part of the designer, buyer or visual merchandiser, since those reports are created for professionals around the world and not specifically thinking about your brand identity.

How do I know this?

Because I worked for several years in one of the world's leading trend forecasting agencies, Fashion Snoops. In addition, my years working as a designer in Lima and New York City, both in luxury and commercial brands, showed me the difficulties that the teams within these companies have in applying the same trend information that I created for those reports. The fact is that learning to work with trends goes beyond having the necessary information: it requires a process of analysis that involves the observation of both socio-cultural changes and innovations in the fashion industry and other creative industries.

What is Trend Research 101?

It is a 4-week training program that will give your team the necessary tools to use the trend information they collect, whether from trend platforms, magazines, websites or travel, in a more strategic way. The focus of this program is on learning to observe, identify and work with signals of change to connect them with the evolution of fashion and the development of customer tastes.

For freelancers, I offer a tailored option of a two-hour session.

Client testimonials

Argelis Miranda, senior designer, Dport S.A. Panamá

"These four weeks of training have been very enriching for me. They have helped me to change my way of analyzing trends, and to think more about my end consumer when it comes to making an innovation proposal in the lines I develop. To observe better, as you mentioned in all the sessions, and to organize in a better way all the information we handle to turn it into a successful product. Thank you for your time and your very dynamic and detailed style of conducting these four weeks of training for the Dport S.A. team".

Alexandra Granda Baertl, brand manager for international brands, Saga Falabella Peru

"Sandra has the ability to explain the importance of knowing your client and your brand from different points of view (as a consumer, designer or buyer). The way she conducts the course gives you the confidence to present your doubts so she can advise you in a clear way. In addition, her experience in the retail sector allows her to tell you about the reality of the market, what is missing and how to manage brands in a more efficient way. Moreover, her experience living and working in different cities, such as Paris and NYC, gives her a global vision of fashion, which allows her to help us to open our minds and use the necessary tools to understand the changes taking place in the world and how they affect our brands and, overall, fashion. Sandra explains the importance of trends and learning to adapt the information that exists to each context and brand, and to understand who your customer is and how to leverage your brand to maximize your sales. I highly recommend her for the seriousness with which she takes the subject, for the ease with which she explains it and for the added value she gives you thanks to her experience in Peru and abroad."

Piera Carreras, socia fundadora Amado Bordado

"The session with Sandra helped us not only to understand what trends and fashion mean in our culture. It was more than that: to understand that they are deeper expressions linked to social, political or economic issues, which place a new type of customer at the center. Sandra led us towards a reflection on the aim of our product, and the need to bring it closer to the increasingly demanding customer that respects culture and the environment. In a very professional way, she shared her knowledge without leaving aside a great sensitivity to the context in which we live."
